Share the Love of Reading Family Event & Book Giveaway

Saturday, February 7. 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Join us at the Roswell Library as we Share the Love of Reading in memory of longtime Roswell Reads volunteer Darla McKenzie and her husband, Michael.  Children's author Danny Schnitzlein will offer a fun and energetic peek behind the scenes of producing children's books using his book Gnu and Shrew. The first 100 families will receive an autographed copy of the book. Aimed at children in grades k-4, but all are welcome to attend.


YEAR OF THE BOOK

The Fulton County Library System is pleased to announce a year long celebration of books and reading, The Year of the Book. Each month, libraries will feature special displays and programs to promote different themes. You’ll see extra displays around the library celebrating books.


ROSWELL ROOTS

Once again, the Roswell Library is proud to partner with Roswell Roots, the largest African American History Month celebration in the state of Georgia. This year, Roswell Roots is celebrating 25 wonderful years!

Miss LuvDrop the Storyteller Presents: African American Achievement and Excellence

Saturday, February 21. 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

In partnership with Roswell Roots and sponsored by the Friends of the Roswell Library, we welcome "Gwendolyn J. Napier" aka "Miss LuvDrop, the Storyteller" to share African American Achievements and Excellence regarding historical Writers, Poets, Musicians, Leaders, Sports Figures, Storytellers and more. 

Join us on this journey as we explore the milestones of Movers and Shakers when they were younger: Ruby Bridges, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and more who later grew up to be Trail Blazers, leaving an impact on History today. Recommended for Ages 5-8. Caregivers must remain with children throughout the program.


ROSWELL ROOTS AND ATLANTA AUTHORS PRESENT TERAH SHELTON HARRIS AT THE ROSWELL CULTURAL ARTS CENTER

Terah Shelton Harris is an author and former librarian, who now writes upmarket fiction with bittersweet endings. She is the author of One Summer in Savannah and Long After We Are Gone. Her third book, Where the Wildflowers Grow, is being published in February 2026.

ATLANTA AUTHORS PRESENTS ROBERT GWALTNEY AT THE ROSWELL LIBRARY

Saturday, March 14. 2:00 p.m.

This event will take place at the Roswell Library.

Robert Gwaltney will be in conversation with Lo Patrick, a previous Atlanta Authors guest speaker. Robert Gwaltney, a recipient of the 2022 Pat Conroy Writers Residency, was named 2023 Georgia Author of the Year for his debut novel, The Cicada Tree. He resides in Atlanta Georgia where he is an active member of the Atlanta literary community serving as a board member for Broadleaf Writers Association. 

Robert’s work has appeared in such publications as Southbound Magazine, Southern Literary Review, The Blue Mountain Review, and The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature. His forthcoming novel, Sing Down The Moon, which has been awarded the Somerset Award for Literary and Contemporary Fiction, will be published by Mercer University Press in the Spring of 2026.

Lo is a former lawyer and current novelist skilled at creating a sultry Southern atmosphere and moody small-town suspense.  Her debut novel, The Floating Girls, earned a Publisher's Weekly starred review and was a Townsend Prize finalist for Fiction, and a Reader's Digest Editor's Pick.  Her other novels include The Night the River Wept andFast Boys and Pretty Girls.

INDOOR ROCK GARDEN

Our wonderful indoor rock garden features a winter theme and rocks that celebrate the season. We hope you will take a moment and stop by, take a look, and take a rock or leave a rock. We always welcome your painted rocks.


SEED LIBRARY

Our Seed Library continues to be very popular. Patrons may check out up to 5 packets of different seeds per family, per month. No library card is required, but we do ask that you “sign out” what you take. There are some guidelines to follow and these are posted next to the Seed Library. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kimberly Hilsee,kimberly.hilsee@fultoncountyga.gov. Kimberly and Fouzia are now in charge of this popular program. 

Each month, Fouzia creates a special display around a theme and creates seed packets related to that theme. In case you missed it, January’s theme was “Soups and Stews.” February’s theme will be “Eat Your Greens!”

Thursday, January 15, 2026 - Sunday, March 15, 2026 

Celebrate Earth Day by planting a tree! Roswell Library is partnering with Neighborhood Trees, whose mission is to give every child the joy of planting and watching their very own tree grow.

Parents, register your child by March 15 to receive a free tree sapling to plant and grow at home: Free Trees from Neighborhood Forest. Trees will be distributed to registered participants at the Roswell Library in late April 2026.

Toddler Playtime

Come play at the Roswell Library! We have plenty of toys to play with and share during this open play hour in the Kids Area. Please note this is a self-supervised program. Staff will be checking in periodically, but not remaining throughout the program. Ages 18 months-5 years.

Yoga for Kids 

Saturday, February 28. 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Dr. Ashley DeLuccia leads our yoga classes for children on the third Saturday of each month. This program will be in the classroom. Parents are asked to remain in the room during class and are encouraged to participate. Due to a new system-wide policy, parents must sign a waiver for participation in this program. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Roswell Library.

Reminder: Participants are welcome to bring their own mat. Please wear comfortable (not too loose) clothing and bring a water bottle. It is best not to eat 1 to 2 hours before class. This program is for ages 5 - 11. Modifications will be offered for limited mobility. 

Displays

The Children’s Department is featuring a great selection of rotating displays as you enter the department. For starters, we feature a great selection of Coretta Scott King Award books, including information about the history of this important award. The CSK Award is a special honor bestowed on authors and illustrators of children’s books about the African American experience. We celebrate African American History Month with a broad selection of wonderful books written by African American authors, as well as biographies about well known and lesser known trailblazers in American history. Additionally, we also have Book Bundles: a few picture books about a certain theme (family, farm, etc.) are preselected for you to check out. This display is on top of the shelves above the Easy Books.

SHIP Medicare Information Sessions

Tuesday, February 3. 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. 

Are you baffled by all the information about Medicare and various “advantage” plans? A representative from Georgia’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program will be here on the first Tuesday of every month between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to speak individually with Medicare recipients and answer their questions.  Appointments are required and each session lasts about one hour. Please call the branch at 404.612.9700 to make a reservation.

Art Class with Sharon Crumley

Rock Painting

Our rock garden has proven to be very popular, and we need more painted rocks! Join us for an enjoyable experience full of creativity and connection to others while painting rocks. You will have the opportunity to decorate one rock for yourself, and the remaining rocks painted during the program will be planted in our rock garden. All supplies will be provided. Needlecrafters

Thursdays. 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Do you knit, crochet, embroider or practice another needle craft? Each week, needlecrafters meet-up and work on their own projects. Bring your own supplies and skills, there’s no instruction provided. Warning: be prepared to laugh and have a good time!

In February, we have some exciting displays to help celebrate a lot of special events. We’ll have a display celebrating African American Georgia Authors (many from metro Atlanta); a display of popular African American novels; a variety of historical fiction novels celebrating America’s 250th birthday; a special display for Ramadan; books and information about the Backyard Bird Count; the Seed Library will feature “Eat Your Greens!”; romance novels; novels featuring US Presidents; books about the Presidency; and more.
